Video: Page tear repair

Watch Helen carefully repair a ripped page in an old family Bible.

Using fine Japanese handmade paper, Helen carefully matches the shape of the tear using a water pen (which leaves no residual marks), to create a bespoke tissue support which is then attached to the page. The translucency of the Japanese paper and the adhesive allow the text to be read beneath it whilst restoring the integrity of the page. Once the first side is secured and all the text matched up and readable, Helen repeats the repair on the reverse side to ensure the page is stabilised and able to be handled once more.
